It looks like Cam Sutton will be activated with a chance to play in the NFL this season.

The former Tennessee Volunteers DB and rookie for the Pittsburgh Steelers has been on IR since the beginning of this season, but Pittsburgh could activate Sutton if the team believes he can contribute this year.

Sutton originally suffered a hamstring injury during training camp prior to this season but was able to return in the preseason. He played well during his time on the field until he re-injured the hamstring in the final game of the preseason.

Jim Wexell with Scout.com shared the story that the Steelers are looking to activate Sutton this week along with some of the factors that could influence Pittsburgh’s decision. Wexell indicated that the team can only recall two players from IR in a season, but Sutton would likely be the only recall the team needs to make this year:

Sutton began practicing following the Steelers’ late-October win in Detroit, and his 21-day trial period ends Tuesday. The Steelers could leave him on IR for the season, but they like the way he practiced and are expected to activate him without making a corresponding move in the secondary.

Sutton recorded 127 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and seven interceptions during his time with the Vols. He also returned 46 punts in his career with three touchdowns. The Steelers used a third-round draft pick to select Sutton in the 2017 NFL Draft.
