The Tennessee Volunteers are entering the first year under new head coach Josh Heupel. Coming from UCF, Heupel will have his hands full hiring his first staff.

One of the most-important positions on that staff will be defensive coordinator, and the search has reportedly moved to the Big Ten.

Per FootballScoop.com, Heupel is reportedly targeting Ohio State LB coach Al Washington:

Multiple sources on Sunday tell FootballScoop that the Vols’ search for Josh Heupel’s first defensive coordinator is centering on popular Ohio State assistant coach, Al Washington.

Washington has been with the Buckeyes for the past 2 seasons. In 2018, he was the LB coach at Michigan.

He has never been a defensive play-caller during his career. He played defensive tackle at Boston College from 2002 to 2005.
