When No. 21 Tennessee takes the field against visiting South Carolina in Week 5, one of the greatest defensive linemen in the history of the sport will be on hand.

Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Garner revealed that Richard Seymour, a 3-time Super Bowl champion and Pro Football Hall of Fame member, will be at Neyland Stadium for the SEC contest. That’s bound to be insightful for Garner’s unit.

The 57-year-old Garner was Seymour’s defensive line coach while the legend played collegiately at Georgia. Garner is particularly excited for Seymour to meet promising Tennessee freshman defensive lineman Daevin Hobbs.

Garner sees some similarities between the 6-foot-4, 290-pound native of Concord, NC and the member of the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team.

“He’s got a chance to be an elite guy because of his skill set and what he brings to that position…” Garner said. “He reminds me a lot of Richard with his demeanor and his size and his athleticism. I’m looking forward for them having the opportunity to meet each other.”

Hobbs has recorded 5 solo tackles to begin his college career after recovering from an upper body injury in the spring.

South Carolina at Tennessee is slated for a 7:30 p.m. EST kickoff on Saturday and will be televised on the SEC Network.
