Redshirt senior defensive end/linebacker Curt Maggitt is uncertain about his future with Tennessee.

The key lineman has been injured since the Oklahoma game and said Tuesday he was unsure whether he would return to Tennessee by appealing the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility or enter the NFL Draft this spring. The one thing he seemed certain of is that he will play football at a high level again.

“I’m grateful to play this game,”Maggitt told the Associated Press. “I want to play as long as God allows me. As (with) all kids, the NFL is a great dream. But I love this place and I would never leave if I didn’t have to. It’s been a great time here.”

Maggitt has been nursing a hip injury since the loss to Oklahoma early in the season. The fifth-year senior has been trying to get back and did not rule out returning for Tennessee’s bowl game against No. 12 Northwestern in Tampa on New Years’ Day.

Maggitt’s career at Tennessee has been mired with injury. He missed the entire 2013 season with a right ACL tear. He recorded 11 sacks and 15 tackles for a loss in 2014, setting up a potentially big year.

That potential was never realized thanks to the nagging hip injury. Because of all his injuries, he could be eligible for a sixth year from the NCAA.

The decision is up to him though whether he will come back for one more year or try for the NFL Draft now.
