Tennessee beats out Georgia, other top programs for 4-star QB in class of 2024
Tennessee has its quarterback in the class of 2024.
The Vols landed a commitment from 4-star passer Jake Merklinger on Thursday afternoon. He chose Tennessee over Georgia, North Carolina and Michigan State.

Merklinger is from Savannah, Georgia. He attends Calvary Day School and is listed at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds.
Merklinger is a massive addition for Tennessee. He’s the No. 55 overall player and the No. 6 quarterback in the country for the 2024 cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 9 player from the state of Georgia.
He continues a strong line of quarterback recruiting under head coach Josh Heupel. In the class of 2023, the Vols landed 5-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava.
Tennessee is now up to 6 commitments in the class of 2024. Merklinger is currently the highest-rated commit in Tennessee’s class. Overall, the group ranks No. 13 nationally per 247Sports Composite rankings.
