Tennessee has lost yet again on the road against a solid opponent, dropping Week 11 to Mizzou 36-7.

The Vols finish the regular season 1-3 in true road games with losses to Alabama, Florida and now Missouri. Tennessee is 5-0 at home this season and 1-0 in neutral site games (Virginia). They finish the season with Georgia and Vanderbilt in Knoxville.

And with how Tennessee is playing, the Vols are hurtling towards an 8-4 regular season record in Year 3 of the Josh Heupel era.

That’s not bad, but it’s also not the expectation for the Vols after an 11-2 year in 2022. Tennessee had no pass rush and the secondary that was already banged up struggled in part because of it. In addition, the Vols’ deadly run game wasn’t able to get up to speed and silly penalties upended every bit of positive momentum Joe Milton and the Vols offense was able to muster in the 2nd half.

There’s an argument to be made that this was Josh Heupel’s worst performance at Tennessee right there alongside 2022 South Carolina. A few fans said as much on Saturday during the final stages of the game.
