Jonathan Kongbo, a four-star defensive end from Arizona Western College, has committed to Tennessee.

Kongbo is the No. 1 junior college player in the nation, according to 247Sports.

Kongbo is a 6-foot-6, 264-pound defensive end who runs a 4.69-second 40-yard dash. This season, he had 49 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks for Arizona Western.

He had offers from a lot of FBS schools, including Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He took an official visit to Ole Miss in October and went to Oregon State last weekend. This weekend, he was in Knoxville watching Tennessee host Vanderbilt. While he was there, he decided he wanted to be a Volunteer.

Kongbo hasn’t taken the traditional route to becoming a four-star prospect. He was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and moved to Canada when he was five. He grew up in Surrey, B.C. (a suburb of Vancouver), and didn’t play football until his senior year of high school. In that one season, he reportedly had 22 sacks.

After playing just one year of high school football, he got a scholarship to Wyoming, but transferred to Arizona Western after redshirting his first year.

He will have three years of eligibility remaining at Tennessee.
