Arch Manning is off to a good start in relief of an injured Quinn Ewers for Texas.

On Manning’s first drive following the Ewers injury, he threw a touchdown pass. On the second drive, he kept the ball on a read-option, raced through the middle of UTSA’s defense and won a foot race to the end zone for a 67-yard touchdown run.

This was the second rushing touchdown of Manning’s career. He also rushed for a score in Texas’ Week 1 over Colorado State.

Here’s a replay of Manning’s big run:

Manning so far is living up to the lofty expectations that he faced as a 5-star prospect coming out of high school. After serving as Texas’ third-string quarterback last season, he’s been excellent so far in 2024 in limited action behind Ewers.

If Ewers does have to miss significant time with an injury, Manning appears capable of still leading Texas to SEC title contention in 2024. Of course, it would still be devastating for Texas to lose Ewers for multiple games. Ewers entered the week as the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy in 2024.

Texas closed as a 35.5-point favorite over UTSA on Saturday at most sportsbooks.
