Texas is the favorite to win the Big 12 Championship this season.

The Longhorns were ranked No. 1 in the Big 12’s preseason media poll, which was released on Thursday afternoon. Texas beat out Kansas State and Oklahoma for the top spot.

Texas earned 41 first-place votes. K-State was next with 14. Oklahoma, Texas Tech, TCU and Oklahoma State also received votes to win the conference.

Here’s a look at the full breakdown:

Texas returns a roster that is loaded with talent, headlined by quarterback Quinn Ewers. He threw for 2,177 yards and 15 touchdowns last season during his first campaign in Austin.

Texas landed 5 players on the preseason All-Big 12 team, which was also released this week. Wide receiver Xavier Worthy, tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr., defensive lineman Byron Murphy II and linebacker Jaylan Ford all made the team.

The Longhorns have not won the Big 12 since 2009. They have lost fewer than 2 games in Big 12 play just twice since that season.

Texas will begin the 2023 season at home against Rice on Sept. 2.
