Will Howard wanted to celebrate. Who wouldn’t?

But the Ohio State quarterback wanted to do something else first. He wanted to find Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers in the postgame chaos on the field before he even did 1 interview in a game he just won to play for the national title.

Talk about sportsmanship.

There Howard was, after the biggest win of his collegiate career (at least so far), parading around the field in Arlington, Texas, like someone trying to find a friend in a crowd of strangers. Finally, after many seconds had gone by, and after making those postgame interviewers wait, Howard found Ewers and the 2 quarterbacks embraced after the Buckeyes prevailed, 28-14, to advance to the national title game against Notre Dame.

Howard toiled all those years at Kansas State without a sniff of a big game, and he transferred to Ohio State to make a Playoff run at a title like the one he’s authoring. But even in the excitement of a semifinal victory, he wanted to find the losing quarterback and congratulate him for a great game and a great season.

Now, Howard’s season and collegiate career will last 1 more game, on Jan. 20 against the Fighting Irish for everything.
