Johann Cardenas is heading to the SEC as of Friday. He posted about the news on social media.

Cardenas is a 4-star RB from the 2024 class. He decided to commit to Clark Lea and Vanderbilt over schools like Missouri, Texas Tech, and BYU.

Here’s what Cardenas had to say about the decision:

“100 committed! Thank you God for making this dream come true and letting me play the game I love at the next level,” said Cardenas. “Nashville I’m home!”

Cardenas is the No. 29 RB and the No. 59 Texas prospect per the 247Sports Composite. He attends St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. The running back took visits to Vanderbilt on Jun. 9 and Missouri on Jun. 22.

The other SEC schools who showed interest in Cardenas were Kentucky and Texas A&M.

Cardenas is the highest-rated recruit in Lea’s 2024 class as of Friday. He is the first 4-star commit to pledge to the Commodores in the 2024 cycle.

Vanderbilt has 20 total commits with one 4-star commit and 19 3-star commits.

Lea will be striving for his first bowl game appearance as the HC at Vanderbilt. The Commodores had a 5-7 finish in 2022. Vanderbilt has not made a bowl game since the 2018 season.

Things are starting to move in the right direction with players like Cardenas heading to Nashville.
