One of the most notorious SEC fans resides in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Vandy Whistler, Preacher Franklin, is famous for his whistles during Vanderbilt baseball games. While many don’t know Franklin’s name, the noise he makes is certainly recognizable. Vandy fans love Franklin’s high-pitched noise-making, but he’s always the target of complaints from opposing fans.

Thursday, it was Derek Mason’s opportunity to address the media at SEC Media Days, and he was asked by a Louisiana journalist — on behalf of LSU fans — if the Vandy Whistler will attend the LSU game on September 21.

“The Vandy Whistler’s everywhere,” Mason said “Sometimes I think I hear him out my window. I know he’s annoying to you, but to us on the West End he’s the man.”

So, we’ll take that as a ‘yes.’

While Franklin started the noise-making, the Commodores now have about four whistlers who have followed suit.

Vanderbilt opens the 2019 season against Georgia on August 31 in Nashville.
