National Signing Day is on Feb. 4 and the SEC is primed to bring in another impressive haul of top recruits in the 2015 recruiting class.

In the next 25 days, Saturday Down South counts down the top 25 recruits either committed to the SEC or strongly considering SEC schools.

Starting with No. 22

No. 22 Deionte Thompson

Position: Safety

247Sports ranking: No. 35 overall; No. 8 overall in Texas

Committed: Alabama (Early Enrollee)

The skinny: The 6-2, 185-pound Deionte Thompson has been committed to Alabama for two years, and although he is listed as a safety and wide receiver on 247Sports player rankings, Thompson will play in the secondary at Alabama. The two-way Texas star shunned in-state Texas schools and decided to take his talents to Alabama. As one of the Crimson Tide’s biggest targets, Thompson has never wavered on his commitment. Thompson is an electric playmaker on both sides of the ball, and he even excelled on special teams.

Freshman projection: With the loss of Landon Collins and very sketchy secondary play overall, Thompson could break into the lineup, assuming he has a strong spring practice. Learning Nick Saban’s complex defense isn’t conducive for early playing time at Alabama, and seeing five-star corners Marlon Humphrey and Tony Brown have minimal impacts in 2014, Thompson breaking into the lineup with significant playing time may be unlikely. However, he’s off to a great head start by enrolling early, and by having an early grasp on the defense, Thompson could be an asset for the Tide next season.
