National Signing Day is on Feb. 4 and the SEC is primed to bring in another impressive haul of top recruits in the 2015 recruiting class.

In the next 25 days, Saturday Down South counts down the top 25 recruits either committed to the SEC or strongly considering SEC schools.

No. 1 Trent Thompson

Position: Defensive Tackle
247Sports ranking: No. 1 overall; No. 1 overall in Georgia
Committed: Georgia Bulldogs

The skinny: Perhaps the toughest position to project from high school to college is defensive tackle, but Trent Thompson is one of the most elite prospects at the position in the last five years. He reminds me of a better and quicker Montravious Adams, who was also a Georgia native. Thompson is the country’s No. 1 overall prospect, and his explosiveness, quickness and first step jump out on film. Thompson was just better than everyone in high school, but he’ll have to work on technique at Georgia. Thompson has all the tools to become another Glenn Dorsey-type tackle in the SEC.

Freshman projection: Although many other prospects around the country are committed to schools, most of them have been looking around leading into National Signing Day. Not Thompson. The elite prospect knew in the 10th grade he wanted to be a Georgia Bulldog, and Jeremy Pruitt is licking his chops ready to put Thompson’s difference-making ability on the field. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t work into the defensive line rotation and have a big impact in just his first season. Again, tackles are tough to project at the next level, but Thompson will be a big-time contributor throughout his career…and maybe in year one.
