National Signing Day is on Feb. 4 and the SEC is primed to bring in another impressive haul of top recruits in the 2015 recruiting class.

In the next 25 days, Saturday Down South counts down the top 25 recruits either committed to the SEC or strongly considering SEC schools.

No. 17 Damien Harris

Position: Running Back
247Sports ranking: No. 34 overall; No. 1 overall in Kentucky
Committed: Alabama

The skinny: Rarely does a prospect like Damien Harris come out of the state of Kentucky. Rarely does a prospect even have the ability and upside of Harris, period. At 5-11, 205, Harris has been pushing high school kids around for the last four years, and he makes it look easy. Too easy. Harris has an elite frame and even better speed for 205 pounds, and he’s a tough customer to bring down, especially in a one-on-one situation with a linebacker. Another aspect of his game that stands out is his vision. Harris makes great cuts with a low center of gravity.

Freshman projection: It’s tough for any freshman to make an impact at Alabama, because the Crimson Tide’s depth is off the charts. There’s a logjam at running back, with Derrick Henry, Kenyan Drake and Tyren Jones all returning, along with incoming star Bo Scarbrough Where does Harris fit in? At this point, he’s likely to redshirt his freshman season, assuming none of the four get injured next season. Henry and Drake will get the bulk of the carries, while Jones will also get into the action. Players the caliber of Harris usually don’t redshirt, but in this case, it’s just hard to see him get on the field in 2015. However, he’s fully talented enough to make an impact, and if one goes down with an injury or gets in the doghouse, it could be Harris’ time to shine.
