College of the Desert (Calif.) quarterback Stephen Johnson II will sign with Kentucky, according to his head coach who delivered the news via the Dan and Mary Jo radio show in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday.

Johnson, who began his career at Grambling State in Louisiana, also drew interest from Hawaii. The 6-foot-3 prospect threw for 3,210 yards and a state-high 34 touchdowns this past season (he also rushed for more than 400) and was named his league’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Johnson is a talented prospect and while he might not be a household name, he has the skill set to bring an added element to the ever-critical quarterback position at Kentucky.

Johnson played high school football at Los Osos High in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
