It would be a major understatement to say the 2016 season did not go according to plan for LSU junior quarterback Brandon Harris.

All offseason, talk in Baton Rouge centered around the improvement of the former elite high school recruit, with both offensive coordinator Cam Cameron and head coach Les Miles singing his praise. After the stunning opening season loss to Wisconsin, Harris’ season was effectively over before it began. LSU quickly turned over the offense to backup quarterback Danny Etling and Harris never saw a meaningful snap again.

There has been much speculation that Harris would leave LSU this offseason, however, with new offensive coordinator Matt Canada now coaching the offense, Harris appears willing to stay in Baton Rouge for his senior season.

During a Twitter Q&A segment Monday evening, Harris was asked if he would be a Tiger in 2017:

Harris’ response, with a clever ode to his new coach, should make LSU fans happy:

While some fans may be eager to write Harris off, Canada has worked wonders in the past with less talented quarterbacks such as Nathan Peterman and Jacoby Brissett, both of whom had to leave SEC programs to achieve playing time.

In his only season under Canada, former Tennessee backup Peterman set career highs with 2,602 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, a 161.2 passer rating and had fewer interceptions than in 2015. Peterman will also have a chance to add to those numbers in Pitt’s bowl game. As for Brissett, the former Florida cast off threw for 5,268 yards, 43 touchdowns to 11 interceptions and completed 60 percent of his passes in two seasons with Canada at NC State. Brissett went on to be drafted in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

If Harris does indeed stick with LSU for next season, he will have a chance to add his name to the reclamation projects the team’s new offensive coordinator has helped turn around in only one offseason of work together.
