Missouri’s new depth chart, released Monday morning, lists sophomore Rickey Hatley as Markus Golden’s backup at defensive end, bumping freshman Marcus Loud to third team.

While coach Gary Pinkel wouldn’t give specifics to the media, it appears Loud didn’t react well to his lack of playing time Saturday.

We will not share the tweets with you here. But at 6:02 p.m. CT on Saturday, immediately after Missouri’s win against South Dakota State, Loud hit “Tweet” on a four-word sentence, sans punctuation. It included two magic words, one of which starts with an “f” and one of which starts with an “s.” (Feel free to check out his Twitter account for yourself.)

After getting a reply of “what happen bro?” Loud responded with his own creative variation of the magic four-letter word. The person who made the initial inquiry then replied, “they scrubbed you today?”

We don’t know if Loud shared any of this thoughts with Pinkel and the coaching staff, whether the team caught a glimpse of his Twitter account or whether there’s some other reason for the demotion. But based on Pinkel’s suggestion that it has to do with “internal” business, here’s to guessing it’s more than just Hatley outperforming him in practice this week.

Loud, along with fellow freshman Charles Harris, entered the season as a duo on a mission to replicate what Golden and Shane Ray were able to do in 2013 as the team’s backup defensive ends.

According to the participation chart, Loud was one of Missouri’s first substitutions of the game, but he did not record a stat. Hatley and Harris both assisted on one tackle.

Pinkel spent the offseason, including at SEC Media Days, talking up Harris and Loud. Missouri will need more production from its defensive end depth during SEC play, so it’s worth monitoring.
