Here are some quick thoughts on Missouri’s 34-0 home loss to Georgia.

What It Means: This Missouri team has looked mediocre or worse for the better part of four games now (South Dakota State, Indiana, South Carolina and Georgia). Maty Mauk bailed out the offensive line and receivers early, but now he’s playing poorly as well. And the pass rush is only effective if the other team has to throw the ball. The talent drain from the 2013 clearly has affected this team, which looks like a seven-win program.

What I Liked: I had to ask around the office. The answers I got: That’s a million-dollar question. Gary Pinkel’s visor. No one got hurt. They sucked at everything. I didn’t like anything.

What I Didn’t Like: The run defense gave up 210 yards despite the absence of Todd Gurley, Keith Marshall and Sony Michel. Mauk threw four interceptions and lost a fumble for good measure. Two of those picks came on dropped passes. Missouri failed to force a turnover for the third consecutive game. The 147 yards of total offense can be pinned on poor offensive line play. Missouri hasn’t been shut out in 147 games.

Who’s The Man: Harold Brantley. He sacked Hutson Mason, applied pressure occasionally and was fairly active. It’s not much, but it’s something.

Key Play: Mauk’s fourth interception. Mauk executed two mostly unnecessary spins, ran backward, eluded pressure for what seemed like 10 seconds, and threw across his body right to Dominick Sanders. That play topped Mauk’s bomb at the end of the first half that hit Wesley Leftwich in the hands after traveling more than 60 yards in the air. Leftwich dropped a sure touchdown that wouldn’t have counted anyway due to a holding penalty.

What’s Next: Missouri must travel to Florida next week with the potential to lose three out of four. Boy, the Tigers are thankful for that comeback win at South Carolina. Otherwise Missouri (4-2, 1-1) could fall below .500.
