Roger Goodell’s wife created anonymous Twitter account to defend her husband

One of the more unpopular figures in sports is NFL Commission Roger Goodell. But a report by the Wall Street Journal outlines Goodell’s biggest supporter, at home and on social media, is his wife, Jane.
The WSJ found that the Twitter account that regularly criticized reporters was actually run by his wife. The now-deleted account, @forargument, was set to private then deleted after Jane Goodell sent a statement to the newspaper.
Jane Skinner Goodell is a former TV broadcaster for the FOX News Channel who has been married to Goodell since 1997. Goodell’s been commissioner since 2006.
The handle was reportedly created in 2014, had no followers, no avatar and has been deactivated. The account was dormant for long periods of time, but became very active when controversy about the NFL’s national anthem protests began in recent weeks.
Mrs. Goodell admitted in a statement that she ran the Twitter handle.
“It was a REALLY silly thing to do and done out of frustration—and love.” she wrote, per the Wall Street Journal. “As a former media member, I’m always bothered when the coverage doesn’t provide a complete and accurate picture of a story. I’m also a wife and a mom. I have always passionately defended the hard-working guy I love—and I always will. I just may not use Twitter to do so in the future!”
