The South Carolina Gamecocks held their annual Junior Day on Saturday following the team’s first spring scrimmage of the year, and Steve Spurrier and company have already capitalized by earning a pair of commitments from top recruits in the 2016 class.

Four-star tailback C.J. Freeman, a native of Greensboro, N.C., announced Saturday that he has committed to play at South Carolina. Freeman has also received consideration from a number of power conference programs, including West Virginia, Virginia Tech and Washington State among others.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect is regarded as the No. 22 running back in the class, according to the 247Sports industry composite rankings.

The news was first reported by GoGamecocks.com and confirmed by Freeman via his Twitter account.

Freeman, should he follow through on his commitment, would join an offense that ranked ninth in the SEC in rushing a year ago and that stands to lose both Brandon Wilds and Shon Carson following the 2015 season.

South Carolina also earned a commitment from three-star wideout Bryan Edwards, once again according to GoGamecocks.com. Edwards, a native of Conway, S.C., marks the Gamecocks’ first in-state commitment from the class of 2016.
