John Chavis has taken the Texas A&M buzz to another level.

Since Johnny Manziel took center stage in College Station, folks around the country have kept their eyes on the Aggies the last several years. Once TAMU was successful in hiring Chavis away from LSU, it helped rekindle the ever-burning question about the Aggies winning the SEC West.

It’s no mystery that the program is loaded with young talent, and Chavis acknowledged that’s part of the reason why he’s excited about the future.

While visiting with the media Thursday, Chavis said the Aggies had the best defensive end duo — Myles Garrett and Daeshon Hall — in college football.

Chavis knows what a big and bold statement that was. He says as much. LSU’s defense under Chavis was known for incredible secondary play, but he also had elite defensive linemen like Sam Montgomery and Barkevious Mingo causing havoc at the line of scrimmage. I saw an interesting graphic about LSU and its sack production decline since 2011. Some will argue the chart is personnel driven, while others may argue that it’s coaching driven. Regardless, Chavis has been extremely successful throughout his coaching career.

Garrett racked up 11.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss during his freshman season, and Hall recorded 4.5 sacks and six tackles for loss.

It will be interesting to see the production the pass rushing tandem creates and which pass rushing duos will compare.
