On his weekly radio show, Florida coach Jim McElwain recapped his team’s 21-3 victory last week over Missouri and previewed the upcoming matchup with LSU. Offensive line coach Mike Summers also stopped by to answer questions.

On this week’s distractions:

“Obviously there were a bunch of things going on this week…It would be boring if it was easy.”

On the Gators playing their third road game of the season:

“We’ve gone on the road and played in two SEC environments and come away with wins…I think our guys truly understand when we arrive on Friday that it’s a business trip.”

On Florida’s defense vs. LSU RB Leonard Fournette:

“We pulled up some clips from the Tennessee game, where for some reason, we decided not to wrap up….(Fournette) averages what 200-something (yards) a game? He probably thinks he can run for 350 (yards) on us.”

On how the team is preparing for Treon Harris as starting quarterback:

“He’s been preparing as a starter since we took over…It’s not all about Treon though. It’s about those other 10 guys. They have to step their level play up to create plays.”

On this week’s preparation:

“I thought we were crisp throughout the week. I thought today we had a really good special teams session. That’s going to be a big part of the game.”

On S Marcus Maye and CB Jalen Tabor’s interceptions against Missouri:

“The one that Maye made he came out of nowhere. He looked like a centerfielder covering some ground there. That’s the second time Jalen’s made a decisive play that put a nail in it…There were some great blocks in front of him on that play.”

On Florida and LSU players taking part in the social media debate regarding which school deserves the title of DBU (Defensive Back University):

“I’ll take our DBs over anybody in the country. Those guys can play…It’s an opportunity (for them) to maybe back it up.”

On how the Grier suspension impacts quarterbacks recruiting:

“We were planning in this class to take two (quarterbacks) anyway. We also have (Oregon State transfer) Luke Del Rio who is sitting out for us. We feel good about that position. I think Gator fans are going to be really happy about these young ones.”

On former Florida coach Steve Spurrier, who resigned from South Carolina earlier in the week:

“I cherished that plane ride up and back to Bristol (ESPN headquarters)…This is a great time to celebrate his unbelievable career as a player and a coach. You never find anybody that says anything bad about the guy. He’s truly a Gator.”

Summers on going into spring practice with only six offensive linemen:

“We went through some interesting times this spring. There were a lot of times (Summers and McElwain) just sat in the locker room and stared at each other. At that time, we knew we had a lot of work to do. From that time, through fall camp, there’s a lot of credit to be given to our strength staff.”

Summers on FCS graduate transfer from Fordham, Mason Halter:

“After spring practice, we were on an all-out search (for offensive linemen)…I don’t think any of us imagined the stabillity he would bring to that group with his maturity. Mason’s stepped in there and done an awesome job of learning the offense and learning how we do things, which is different for him.”

Summers on the offensive line handling hostile environments like LSU’s Death Valley:

“Snap count in that environment is going to be critical for us and something we’ve worked on…The way we’ve practice on Thursdays helps us with that. I’ve been really pleased with so many hostile environments we’ve been in and how we’ve handled that – we’ve minimalized false start and holding penalties.”
