With all the new faces of the Missouri football program this year, the biggest addition for the 2016 season could very well be running back Alex Ross. Ross comes to Columbia after transferring from Oklahoma after three seasons. Because Ross is a graduate transfer, he will be eligible immediately for the Tigers.

Mizzou’s official football Twitter account welcomed Ross to the school Wednesday with this tweet:

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Ross rushed for 786 yards and 5 touchdowns in just over two seasons of action for the Sooners but was regarded as a four-star recruit and the No. 3 overall running back prospect in the nation coming out of high school in 2012, according to 247Sports.

While junior Ish Witter led Missouri in rushing last season with 518 rushing yards, the Tigers lost Russell Hansbrough to graduation this offseason, leaving the door open for Ross to make an immediate impact on offense this season. In an odd twist, Ross also has experience with the Tigers’ new offensive coordinator Josh Heupel, as Heupel was Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator in 2014 — which just so happened to be Ross’ best collegiate season.

If Ross finally lives up to his incredible recruiting hype, Missouri may have just welcomed one of the best backs in the SEC to the team Wednesday.
