Debate and discussion are at the heart of college football. Some fans dissect opponent’s strengths and weaknesses while others enjoy smack talking rivals until they’re red in the face.

There’s no right or wrong way to go about it, but one thing is certain: College football wouldn’t be the same without passionate fans arguing on behalf of their favorite team.

With Georgia’s season opener against North Carolina in the Chik-Fil-A Kickoff Game just days away, we checked in on Tar Heels fans to see what they are saying about the game. It’s always interesting to get a different perspective on your team, which this will hopefully provide.

Here’s a sample of what the North Carolina faithful are saying about the Bulldogs heading into Saturday’s showdown.

“Georgia will punch UNC in the mouth and I’ll be interested to see how UNC responds. I won’t say that Georgia is a national title contender this year, but they’ll be fast and extremely physical. I don’t expect a quick start, but I like UNC’s chances to win if they’re able to absorb the opening shots UGA throws at them and find a way to settle down.” — Andy In Omaha on Tar Heel Blog

“I will be there with my wife, a UGA grad. I will be surrounded by her family, all UGA. I just want to see us win one that matters. A opening day win against a upper level SEC school would do some much for the program. A prime time victory would get that southern pipeline of talent flowing just a little bit better. For the ACC race, this game isn’t a backbreaker. A victory however, would be HUGE for the program.” — The Project C on Tar Heel Blog

“My boss just stood up and announced that Chubb was cleared to play and we’re in trouble. I nodded and went back to work. Not worried.” — Trublu83 on Inside Carolina

“UGA fans think they win by a mile as UNC is in the ACC and they keep saying we have an untested QB. They say they will run right thru UNC. They seem to forget that this is Mitch’s 3rd year and Eason was in high school last year. Will be a good game I expect.” — Honesty1 on Inside Carolina

“It’s going to be a very high level football game IMO. Think the Dawgs run it on us well at first, but we calm down and get it together. I’m sure Chizik is planning on making them throw to beat us, and there are very few teams in the country who have both the QB and WRs to do that to us. UGa isn’t one of them. That said, if UGa can maintain balance in their offense, we will be in trouble. But like I said, this is going to be a fun game.” — DougUNC1 on Inside Carolina

“Regardless of who’s playing QB, UGA will try to pound it on the ground. If they don’t, in light of our deficiencies in that area, then they hired the wrong coach. If they’re successful running the ball, they’ll be able to protect their young QB and use play action to open some things up. We won’t be able to apply the pressure we want if they’re able to run wild on us.  Got to get them in some 3rd and longs.” — GOHEELS86 on Inside Carolina

“Chubb and Michel are really the only threats I am worried about against our D. We haven’t proved yet that we can consistently stop the run and that doesn’t add up well against those two backs. Especially with 2 new starting linebackers. Although one of them is going to end up being a stud (Andre Smith). With that said, whoever said they can’t see us scoring 30 must have not watched any UNC games last year. I believe we AVERAGED something like 40 last year. We are going to put up points. I’m not worried about that. I actually believe the offense is going to be better this year. I loved Marquise Williams but I believe Tribusky (Editor’s note: it’s Trubisky) is a better QB and will put up huge numbers this year with Switzer, Hollins, and Howard back and adding on 4 star transfer from Vandy, Jordan Cunningham.” — heels4lyfe on Carolina Blue
