Georgia will likely be without star running back Nick Chubb for this weekend’s all-important SEC East matchup with rival Tennessee.

Chubb injured his ankle during the Bulldogs’ loss at Ole Miss last weekend, and despite a hopeful message from coach Kirby Smart during this week’s practices, the junior running back will be able to play against the Volunteers, according to the AJC’s DawgNation.

“I don’t think he’s going to play,” Henry Chubb, Nick’s father, told Chip Towers on Friday afternoon. “He’s got that high-ankle sprain. He twisted it trying to make a cut against Ole Miss. He’s in good spirits and all. He understands it. The doctor said he’d need a couple weeks, so he’ll probably play next week.”

Although there has been no official word from the program, Towers reports that those who are close to the situation say there is “virtually no hope” of Chubb playing on Saturday.

If Chubb is indeed out for the game, Georgia will rely on junior Sony Michel to carry the load. After Chubb left last year’s game against Tennessee, Michel filled in and gained 143 yards in the Bulldogs’ loss. He will likely be complimented by true freshmen Brian Herrien and Elijah Holyfield, as well as veteran Brendan Douglass.
