Lane Kiffin hasn’t been formally introduced at Florida Atlantic yet, but he’s already trying to reunite with one of his former players according to a new report.

Matt Zenitz of AL.com reports that a coach expected to be on Kiffin’s new staff reached out to former Alabama QB Blake Barnett about transferring to FAU on Friday. Barnett, who left the Crimson Tide in September and transferred to Palomar Junior College in California, announced his commitment to Arizona State last Monday.

While Kiffin helped recruit Barnett to sign with Alabama in 2015, it appears that the Corona, Calif. native has his sights set on returning out west after departing Tuscaloosa. The AL.com report states that Barnett told the coach that he was firm in his commitment to ASU. By transferring to Palomar Junior College this fall, Barnett will be eligible to play in 2017.

Barnett is not the only Alabama quarterback who did not wish to be Jalen Hurts’ backup. Fellow Crimson Tide signal-callers Cooper Bateman and David Cornwell have also announced their intentions to transfer.
