Former Alabama QB Cooper Bateman has reportedly enrolled at Utah.

Scott Garrard of 1280 The Zone first noticed Bateman’s name in Utah’s online student directory.

Kyle Goon of the Salt Lake Tribune reports that Bateman is expected to walk-on to the Utes’ football team this fall. Utah athletics did not respond to Goon’s request for comment.

Bateman was originally part of the class of 2013. The Salt Lake City native was rated the No. 4 pro-style quarterback of his recruiting class. In two seasons at Alabama, Bateman was 49-of-66 for 410 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. For better or worse, Bateman will likely be best remembered for starting against Ole Miss in 2015, Alabama’s only loss of the season. This season, he served as the holder on the field goal team.

After Jalen Hurts won the starting quarterback job at Alabama as a true freshman this fall, Bateman, Blake Barnett and David Cornwell all announced plans to transfer. Utah’s starter from last season, Troy Williams (207-of-390, 2,757 yards, 15 TD, 8 INT) is returning in 2017. The Utes will have a new offensive coordinator, Troy Taylor, formerly of Eastern Washington.

Bateman is a pro-style quarterback and Taylor runs a spread, which could make it difficult for the transfer to win the starting job. If Bateman were to become the starter, he would have the opportunity to play with former high school teammates tight end Siale Fakailoatonga and center Lo Falemaka.
