Steve Spurrier appeared on “The Paul Finebaum Show” Friday, and the two discussed a variety of topics, including Florida’s most recent recruiting class. The former coach was critical of the team’s effort on one side of the ball.

Florida finished with nine offensive signees in a 23-member class. While that number might seem low to Spurrier, it does include five 4-star signees (OT Kadeem Telfort, TE Kemore Gamble, WR James Robinson, WR Daquon Green and OT T.J. Moore). UF’s four 3-star signees were at quarterback (Jake Allen and Kadarius Toney) and running back (Malik Davis and Adarius Lemons).

Coach Jim McElwain has not stated how involved Spurrier is with recruiting as an ambassador and consultant at Florida. Four-star WR Charleston Rambo, an Oklahoma signee, recently tweeted a photo with Spurrier on an official visit to UF.

The help with offensive recruiting that Spurrier references to may have just arrived in the form of new assistant Ja’Juan Seider. The former West Virginia running backs coach was announced as a new Gators assistant on Friday, and is known as a strong recruiter in the South Florida area, an area which produced 5-star WR Jerry Jeudy, an Alabama signee and 4-star WR Trevon Grimes, who picked Ohio State, in the 2017 class.

Florida’s offensive assistants arguably had less pressure on them in this recruiting cycle, as depth was a much bigger issue on defense heading into National Signing Day. The team lost eight defensive starters to graduation and the NFL.
