The Gators coaching staff has just added a familiar face as former standout Florida defensive lineman Ian Scott has just been announced as the latest addition to Jim McElwain’s staff. Scott will be a defensive graduate assistant starting in 2017.

Scott is a Gainesville native, where his prep career began at nearby Gainesville High School. During his Gator career, which spanned from 2000-2002, Scott played in 32 games and started 23 in three seasons. After leaving Florida, Scott was a fourth-round draft pick in the 2003 NFL Draft.

“We are excited to have Ian back home in Gainesville,” head coach McElwain said in a statement. “His understanding of what it means to be a Gator and the plan needed to be successful will be invaluable to our players.”

“I am extremely excited to be back in Gainesville and with the University of Florida family once again,” Scott added in the statement. “The culture around this University and program is really special and I’m thrilled to work with Coach McElwain and his staff.”

This opportunity will be Scott’s second coaching job, as he served as a defensive assistant for Daniel High School in Central, South Carolina.
