The Georgia Bulldogs reportedly made an intriguing hire on Thursday night by adding former Minnesota quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Jay Johnson to the offensive support staff.

According to 247Sports, Johnson will join Kirby Smart’s staff as an offensive analyst in 2017.

Johnson has previous stops at Minnesota, Louisiana-Lafayette, Central Michigan and Southern Miss on his resume.

With so much experience under his belt, Johnson could be a candidate to move into an on-field role if Georgia has any assistant coaches leave following the 2017 season.

The Golden Gophers went 9-4 with a Holiday Bowl victory over Washington State under Johnson’s offensive guidance in 2016.
