Videos: Texas A&M QB Kellen Mond opens spring with third-team offense
Kellen Mond was the highest-rated recruit out of all of Texas A&M’s quarterbacks on roster, but that does not mean Kevin Sumlin will let him leapfrog the returning veteran signal-callers on the depth chart just yet.
Mond, a 4-star prospect ranked the No. 108 overall recruit and No. 3 dual-threat quarterback of the 2017 class, opens spring as the third-team quarterback behind senior Jake Hubenak and sophomore Nick Starkel. A fourth quarterback, Connor Blumrick is also an early enrollee, and still recovering from offseason surgery.

The Aggies are hoping to find stability at the position with one of the younger quarterbacks. Texas A&M has seen recent starters Kenny Hill, Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray all transfer out. Last year’s starter, graduate transfer Trevor Knight, completed his eligibility in 2016.
