Texas A&M will reportedly be getting an extra set of hands to help on offense next season as former New York Jets quarterback coach Kevin Patullo is expected to join Kevin Sumlin’s staff.

According to Sporting News NFL columnist Alex Marvez, Patullo will become an analyst for the Aggies.

Entering spring football with a big question mark under center following the departure of Trevor Knight, the Aggies stand to gain invaluable knowledge on coaching up its largely inexperienced quarterback room from Patullo, as the former NFL assistant has spent six seasons coaching at the game’s highest level. Before coaching in New York, Patullo had coaching stints with the Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills.

With Knight now out of the picture in College Station, A&M has a trio of players competing to win the starting duties this spring in true freshman, and early enrollee, Kellen Mond, senior Jake Hubernak and redshirt freshman Nick Starkel.

While Mond clearly comes with the most hype heading into the spring, A&M has had a history of surprising with its selection of starting quarterback under Sumlin. Johnny Manziel’s selection as the team’s starter before the 2012 season was a surprise to many, as was the selection of Kenny Hill heading into the 2014 season. Both players weren’t unknown for very long, and it wouldn’t be much of a surprise for the Aggies next starter to quickly become a household name in 2017.
