The much-anticipated opening of Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta has hit another delay during construction, but it reportedly shouldn’t affect the season-opening college football games that are still scheduled to be played there.

According to Atlanta’s WSB-TV, the stadium’s construction is lagging behind and they will miss their goal of hosting the Atlanta United home opener on July 30. Still, that would leave a bit of time as a buffer before the Chik-Fil-A Kickoff between Alabama and Florida State on Saturday, Sept. 2. Tennessee is also scheduled to open the 2017 in the stadium against Georgia Tech on Monday, Sept. 4.

Steve Cannon, CEO of Arther Blank’s AMB Group, said very directly on Tuesday that “There are no changes to the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic.”

When asked about the reason for the delay, Cannon said that the stadium’s design has created unique and unforeseen challenges.

“The reason for a revised timeline is quite simple: normal surveying and analysis of the roof structure, as well as steelwork in the roof, have both taken longer than planned. Those two things have had a cascading effect on overall workflows related to the roof and that is the reason for the new timeline.”

For MLS fans, that means a move to Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd stadium. For college football fans, it’s business as usual — at least, for now.
