As Mizzou continues to finalize plans for renovations of Faurot Field, there’s a chance the student section — Tiger’s Lair — could be moved to a new spot.

Due to SEC regulations about how close a student section can be to an opposing team’s bench, the likely landing spot for the student section would be one of the end zones or a corner section.

Currently situated at midfield behind the Mizzou bench, Tiger’s Lair isn’t giving up their primo seats without a fight.

On Tuesday evening, the student section released a statement about the potential move, calling out school administration for trying to relegate the students to an end zone:

The harshest portion of the statement says that any change in the Tiger’s Lair seating may lead to decreased attendance from the student body as a whole:

“We fear that if these plans floating around are true, there will be a dramatic disinterest in Mizzou Football,” the statement reads. “Not only does Tiger’s Lair have to combat lower enrollment with incoming freshman, but also a reduced desire in season tickets from current students due to the performance of the team.”

After a 5-7 season in 2015 and a 4-8 record last year, the Tigers need to at least gain bowl eligibility in 2017 to keep fan interest high.

If Mizzou falters on the field again this fall, no amount of stadium renovations will be enough to keep fans flocking to the stadium on Saturdays.
