With the 2017 NFL Draft quickly approaching, don’t rush off to buy that Myles Garrett Cleveland jersey just yet. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Browns are seriously considering taking former North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky with the top overall selection in the draft.

Schefter shared the latest Cleveland intel he is hearing on a Wednesday edition of SportsCenter.

“I continue to hear that Mitchell Trubisky is square in consideration and may turn out to be the No. 1 pick,” Schefter said on the air. “Now, I know everybody thinks Myles Garrett is going to be the pick — and I will not be surprised if that is the case tomorrow night — but I have got very smart, very well-connected people telling me over the last 24 hours that they think Mitchell Trubisky is going to be the No. 1 pick.”

Would the Browns really pick a quarterback with only one season of starting play in college over the best overall and arguably most gifted prospect in the draft? It’s very hard to decipher true motives from NFL teams in the days leading up to the draft and this certainly could be a ploy by the franchise.

Perhaps Cleveland is attempting to get a team to trade up for Trubisky or Garrett at No. 1. Another strategy Cleveland could be employing is hiding their interest in a third prospect. It’s been reported that the Browns may deal back up from their 12th overall selection to grab a quarterback. By putting out the thought they are high on Trubisky, the team could be concealing its desire to take another target they have in mind if they do deal back up into the first round after taking Garrett No. 1 overall.

For what it’s worth, Garrett is currently -850 to be selected with the first overall pick in the draft, while Trubisky is +600, according to BookMaker.eu – which suggests the two prospects are not close when it comes to gambling odds.
