Players falling in the NFL Draft is practically an annual tradition. Every year, a highly-rated prospect is passed over several times as people scramble to uncover the reason why.

Unfortunately, several Alabama players experienced that slide during the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. To many people’s surprise, Marlon Humphrey was the first member of the Crimson Tide off the board on Thursday.

Colin Cowherd, host of Fox Sports’ The Herd, revealed his theory on why Alabama players fell in the first round and why they seemingly don’t achieve their expected level of success in the NFL.

“I have heard multiple times this offseason from NFL people ‘Bama guys, buyer beware,'” Cowherd said on his show Friday afternoon. “They come out beat up and topped out. Bama guys live in that weight room, they come out injured and torn up and Alabama doesn’t tell you that. Jonathan Allen has no cartilage in one of his shoulders, none. Reuben Foster may need surgery.”

As Allen and Foster began to fall on Thursday night, many attributed the slide to concern with their injuries. It’s no secret that Alabama pushes its players as hard as any team in the country. Nick Saban has built a level of competition that few programs can rival, which forces his players to go all-out on a daily basis.

The result has been multiple championships and a dynasty to match any in college football history. Unfortunately, it may be hurting his player’s stock with NFL teams.
