Former South Carolina WR Alshon Jeffery is hoping to cash in next offseason after signing a one-year, $14 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles this year.

The longtime Chicago Bear has dealt with injuries the past couple of seasons, which led to the market for his services not being as high as he’d have liked.

Therefore, he’s hoping to prove he can still be an elite pass catcher this year in order to land a big contract next summer.

Former Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (who played collegiately at Vanderbilt) has a lot of experience throwing to Jeffery and said he believes his ex-teammate will have a great year in Philly, according to ESPN.com:

“He’ll do well,” Cutler responded. “Mike Groh is there, the wide receivers coach. He had Al in Chicago when we were all there. Mike knows him really well, can get the most out of him.

“And I think that Al knows this is a huge year for him. You know, it’s another one-year deal for him. I mean, if he stays healthy and he works hard, I mean, the guy is unbelievable. He’s just had some bad luck with some injuries that have kind of plagued him. You know, one injury will lead to another injury to another injury. It’s hard at that position to battle back and get healthy again and be productive.”

Jeffery caught 52 passes for 821 yards and two touchdowns in 2016 while appearing in only 12 games due to injuries. Cutler and the other Bears quarterbacks also suffered from injuries, meaning Jeffery had to work with three different signal callers.

If he can stay healthy and have some stability from Philadelphia QB Carson Wentz, Jeffery could land the big contract he desires in 2018.
