Texas A&M is looking to build a new identity on defense after losing one of the most disruptive players in college football, and it just added a player who can help with that process.

Brian Johnson, a 3-star linebacker prospect from Manvel, Texas, announced his commitment to the Aggies via Twitter on Friday evening. Johnson’s recruitment has gained steam in recent months, and he chose Texas A&M over offers from Baylor, Oklahoma State and Louisville.

“The recruitment process has been a true blessing, without God none of this would have been possible,” he wrote in his note on Twitter. “I appreciate all the college coaches that offered me a scholarship to continue my education and play football in their program. To my little league coaches, Coach Payne, Dangelo and Joubert, you guys laid the foundation for me, and I would like to say thanks! My family, my brother and sister always supported me! Rain sleet and shine couldn’t keep my parents away; I could always count on you’ll (sic) to be at every game and just about every practice! They would drive me from the East Coast to West and back again if I ask them to! You guys have no clue how much I truly love and appreciate you’ll! (sic)

“I am announcing that I will be continuing my education and playing football on the next level at Texas A&M University.”

The 6-foot-2, 183-pound linebacker is rated the No. 49 outside linebacker prospect for the Class of 2018 and the No. 93 overall prospect from the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite Ranking.
