Earlier this offseason, the Los Angeles Rams decided they weren’t going to pick up former Auburn OL Greg Robinson’s fifth-year option, making 2017 an important year for the No. 2 overall pick from the 2014 NFL Draft.

However, before Robinson could prove to the Rams that he deserved a new contract, the Rams traded him to the Detroit Lions for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

In a video interview with DetroitLions.com, Robinson said he was caught off guard by the trade, but is excited to show what he can do for the Lions this season:

“It was a big surprise,” Robinson said. “I found out [Wednesday] night, so quick turnaround. But I’m looking forward to the opportunity.

“I plan on benefiting from it tremendously. I think, throughout the course of my career, it’s really refreshing, and I plan to make the most out of it.”

Robinson has played in 46 games in his three years in the NFL, starting all 14 games he appeared in for the Rams last season.

Robinson is expected to fill in for Detroit LT Taylor Decker, who will be out four-to-six months with a torn labrum.
