Rece Davis thinks Alabama will be taking on an ACC foe in the national championship game for the third straight year. Only this time, it won’t be against Clemson.

The College GameDay host thinks the biggest game of Week 1 will serve as the preview for the final game of the season.

“I think the first big game of the season will also be the last game of the season, Alabama-Florida State in Atlanta for the national championship.,” Davis recently said, per CoachingSearch.com. “Obviously the loser of the game has no more margin for error, but as we sit here in late June, I do believe these are the two best teams.”

Even if Alabama and Florida State both make the College Football Playoff, the selection committee could spoil the UA alumnus’ prediction by having the two teams meet in the semifinals. Davis’ point, obviously, is that he thinks the Crimson Tide and Seminoles are the two best teams.

The preseason Associated Press rankings won’t come until next month, but many media members predict that the Crimson Tide and Seminoles will both be in the top five. If one team is No. 1, likely Alabama, and the other (Florida State) No. 3 or higher, it will be the highest-ranked Week 1 matchup in the era of preseason rankings.

Davis and the rest of the College GameDay will be broadcasting from Atlanta for the highly anticipated showdown between Alabama and FSU on Sept. 2.
