Ed Orgeron responds to Florida scheduling LSU as its homecoming game

Florida has lobbed its share of jabs at LSU in the press and on social media ever since topping the Tigers 16-10 on Nov. 19 in Tiger Stadium. UF coach Jim McElwain has made it a point to describe the victory as winning a home game on the road. The official Florida football Twitter account has engaged in some trolling of LSU this offseason, but many point to UF’s decision to name LSU its homecoming opponent as the most significant shot at the Tigers.
For now – at least publicly – Ed Orgeron is brushing it off and not giving the Gators any bulletin board material.
“Here’s what I’ve got to tell you, people are gonna do what they’re gonna do,” Orgeron said at SEC Media Days. “Florida’s a great rivalry for us. We respect them. Any time we go into The Swamp, it’s going to be a battle. We need to prepare. I have a lot of respect for Coach McElwain and the job that they do. We’re gonna be ready to play regardless of what game it is. We have an upcoming opponent that week that’s very tough and I’m going to get our team ready to play.”
We’ll be watching to see if the Tigers players in Hoover, Ala. are as diplomatic as Orgeron when it comes to talking about the Gators and being UF’s homecoming opponent on Oct. 7. The Tigers are making an unusual odd-numbered year trip to Gainesville because last year’s contest, originally scheduled as a home game for Florida, was moved to Baton Rouge when it was rescheduled.
