The Washington Redskins have signed ex-LSU RB Kenny Hilliard.

Hilliard is joining a Redskins team that currently has a crowded backfield at training camp. He is listed on the depth chart behind returning starter Rob Kelley, second-string RB Chris Thompson, and 2017 4th-round pick Samaje Perine out of Oklahoma.

It appears Hilliard has his work cut out for him if he wants to make Washington’s opening day roster.

The timing of Hilliard signing with the Redskins is no coincidence. Former UGA RB Keith Marshall will miss the season after tearing his patellar tendon.

Hilliard played in 38 games over four seasons with the Tigers. He finished his career at LSU with 1,557 rushing yards and 28 total TD’s along with an incredible 5.2 YPC.

The highlight of Hilliard’s LSU career came in the 2011 SEC championship game when he rushed for 72 yards and notched three total TD’s in LSU’s 42-10 victory over UGA. Unfortunately, LSU would lose the BCS title game that year 21-0 in a rematch with Alabama.

Hilliard was originally drafted by the Houston Texans in the 7th round of the 2015 NFL draft.
