A change of scenery seems to have done wonders for Jalen Hurd’s attitude.

The former Tennessee running back, now a wide receiver at Baylor, has impressed his new coach with his attitude and effort.

“He’s a guy that makes everyone around him better with his effort and the way he practices,” Baylor coach Matt Rhule recently said of Hurd, according to ESPN Radio’s Craig Smoak.

Hurd, of course, was labeled a quitter by many for bailing on Tennessee during the middle of last season, announcing his plans to transfer after the Volunteers’ Week 9 loss to South Carolina.

On Baylor’s official roster, the 6-foot-4 Hurd is listed 20 pounds lighter (220) than he was on Tennessee’s roster (240 pounds) when he played running back. As a junior, Hurd had 122 carries for 451 yards and three touchdowns as well as 10 catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Hurd left Tennessee over frustrations with the offensive scheme and how he was used. His career high in receptions, 35, came as a freshman in 2014.

After visiting various Power 5 schools, Hurd settled on Baylor in April.
