In 2016, Sean White appeared in 11 games as Auburn’s quarterback, throwing for 1,679 yards and nine touchdowns while helping to lead the Tigers to the Sugar Bowl.

However, during the offseason, Auburn landed Baylor-transfer QB Jarrett Stidham and, on Monday, coach Gus Malzahn named Stidham the starter for the 2017 season.

Following the announcement, White took to Twitter to express that he is supportive of Stidham and will accept his role as his backup:

Having a talented backup quarterback like White will be a huge comfort for the Auburn coaching staff, as not many players stick around these days after losing starting jobs.

Should Stidham suffer an injury or struggle at any point, the Tigers will feel safe handing the keys to the offense back to White.
