As Houston Nutt’s lawsuit against his old school continues to dominate the headlines in Oxford, Ole Miss is dealing with another case, too.

That would be the Rebel Rags case, in which Mississippi State players Leo Lewis and Kobe Jones and Laremy Tunsil’s stepfather, Lindsey Miller, claim they received improper benefits and free merchandise from the apparel store.

According to The Clarion-Ledger, Rebel Rags has claimed Jones — a redshirt freshman defensive end — colluded with Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen and other university officials, something Jones’s lawyer, Chris Shapley, vehemently denied:

“There was no collusion between Dan Mullen and Kobe Jones,” Shapley said Monday. “(Jones) was interviewed by the NCAA, he was accompanied by his father and did not have a lawyer present. The only thing he promised to do and the only thing he did was answer the questions as accurately as he could. Nobody instructed him to do or not do anything other than tell the truth and that’s what he did.”

As a true freshman in 2016, Jones didn’t appear in any games and ended up taking a redshirt.

As a redshirt freshman this fall, he’ll try to earn some playing time as the Bulldogs kick off their 2017 season.
