In Week 1 of the 2016 season, the Tennessee Volunteers needed overtime to squeak past Appalachian State 20-13.

This year, the Georgia Bulldogs will try to avoid that same fate, as they open their season against the very same Mountaineers who gave the Vols a scare.

According to Georgia redshirt senior DB Aaron Davis, the Bulldogs want to make sure they don’t take Appalachian State for granted:

Though it was likely an innocent comment, nothing is ever forgotten in SEC football. Therefore, it seems Davis just gave Tennessee some bulletin-board material for when the two teams meet up in Week 5.

Appalachian State is known to play well against big schools (just ask Michigan), so Georgia’s Week 1 game should indeed be interesting.

However, Davis has now added another layer of intrigue to the annual Tennessee-Georgia matchup, especially after the Bulldogs lost in dramatic Hail Mary fashion in 2016.
