Coming off the disappointment of a national championship game loss in 2016, the Alabama Crimson Tide have something to prove this fall.

And that’s right where coach Nick Saban wants them to be.

According to AL.com, former Alabama QB Greg McElroy — who won a national title in 2010 — thinks Saban loves this year’s Crimson Tide team because of that hunger to avenge last year’s loss:

“I think they’re going to be really good,” McElroy said. “I also get the sense Nick Saban likes this group. This group has something to prove. I think that’s exhilarating. Obviously, they’re very, very talented. I think they have a lot of skill, especially on offense. Then on defense there’s a lot of pieces coming together but they’re not without talent at all. I’m really looking forward to seeing what they do. I think they have a chance to be really, really special. It’s just a matter of if they can bring their A-game every day.”

Alabama will have a tough test in Week 1 as it travels to Atlanta to play Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game.

If the Crimson Tide can pull off a victory in that contest, though, McElroy — now an ESPN analyst — believes big things could be in store for his alma mater this year.
