While dealing with even more suspensions on Wednesday, Florida coach Jim McElwain took time out from doing damage control to name redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks the team’s starting quarterback.

That means Notre Dame transfer Malik Zaire and last year’s starter, Luke Del Rio, will start the season on the bench for the Gators.

According to McElwain’s press conference, he said Zaire and Del Rio didn’t take the news well, but were still happy for their young teammate:

“They weren’t jumping up and down with joy,” he said. “They handled it like they should: like competitors and teammates.”

With Franks starting against Michigan on Saturday, the revolving door of Florida quarterbacks continues:

Franks will make his first start against the talented Wolverines’ defense on Saturday afternoon at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time and can be seen on ABC.
