LSU will play its first SEC opponent Saturday as the team travels to Starkville to take on Mississippi State. The Tigers have not lost at MSU since 1999. Considering both schools ranks among the Top 4 in the SEC in terms of scoring defense, the game should be a very physical and low-scoring affair.

Ed Orgeron was the first coach to speak during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference.

Here’s a summary of what was said:

  • “Dan Mullen has done a tremendous job at Mississippi State. They are playing well right now.”
  • DL Rashard Lawrence’s status: “Very questionable, I don’t think he’s going to play.”
  • Status of Arden Key coming back from injury: Wait and see what happens. He was rusty yesterday. He repped with the first team, he’s not ready for a full game. He will start but he’s not ready to play the entire game.
  • on Nick Fitzgerald: He’s made tremendous strides. Running the offense like Dan wants him to… He’s tough, Dan recruits tough QBs.
